This combined equipment setup will allow studies of magnetic field effects during solid state deformation and phase transformation up to magnetic field strength of 3 Tesla (load capacity of 100 tons). This system will serve as a discovery tool to expand the microstructural pathways for enhanced performance in steels, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys and magnesium alloys. This equipment will also have a very broad research and educational impact in the application of magnetic fields. Additionally, it will provide pathways to discover basic science linking processing to microstructural evolution and its subsequent impact on mechanical properties.
