Room Temperature & High Temperature Fatigue Tester

High temperature fatigue testing systems include Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF), Thermomechanical Fatigue (TMF) and Electro-Thermal Mechanical Testing (ETMT) systems. LCF systems assess the performance of materials at elevated isothermal conditions when subjected to high loads and plastic deformations. TMF and ETMT systems simulate the complex effects of thermal cycling combined with mechanical loading, normally experienced by gas turbines and similar equipment during operation. All Instron high temperature fatigue testing systems are fully integrated packages that allow our customers to carry out testing quickly and efficiently, in compliance with all relevant standards.1

High temperature fatigue machine features:

  • Completely reversible bending fatigue testing of sub-sized (mini) specimens.

  • Testing frequency capability: up to 33 Hz (maximum motor rotation rate of 2000 RPM).
  • Maximum load cell capacity: 10 lb.
  • Different R ratios, σmin/ σmax, (ranging from 0 to -1) can be obtained.
  • Elevated temperature fatigue testing of automobile Al alloys have been carried out.

Oil bath furnace features:

  • Maximum operating temperature = 260 °C (500 °F).

  • Medium: silicone oil.
  • Oil operating temperature range: 25 °C to 230 °C.

Room temperature mini-fatigue testing salient features:

  • Custom built, tabletop mini-fatigue tester.

  • Computer controlled servo-motor capable of programing to rotate at the required rate.
  • Equipped with National Instruments USB 6009 data acquisition card capable of reading up to 100 data points in 1 minute.
  • Rod attached to cam of the motor converts the rotational motion into linear to- and -fro motion.
  • Linear motion is transferred, through the load transfer arm, all the way to the fatigue specimen.
  • Capable of testing at low stress amplitude (50 MPa) to high stress amplitude (1 GPa) cyclic loadings.
  • Highly suitable to test friction stir processed (FSP) and additively manufactured (AM) samples.
